Property Buying Checklist: Significant Stages of Your Home-buying Process
  • Interview and hire a qualified Buyer's Agent.

  • Determine your buying range and obtain loan Pre-Approvals from mortgage lenders.

  • Decide what criteria are most important in a home (location, number of bedrooms/bathrooms, etc.).

  • View and evaluate properties, then decide whether or not to make an Offer to Purchase.

  • Discuss the true value of the property, negotiation strategies, amount of earnest money to be deposited and presentation of the Offer to Purchase.

  • Hire a qualified real estate attorney to protect your legal interests, review and approve the purchase offer.

  • Once an offer is accepted, coordinate desired inspections of the premises (home, water, septic, and so on.)

  • Renegotiate undisclosed items found during the Inspections.

  • Obtain Home Owner’s Insurance Policy.

  • Obtain a Mortgage Commitment Letter from the Lender.

  • Final "walk through" of the premises before the closing.

  • Attend the "closing" of the transaction.
